Learning Styles: Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic

Jul 22, 2011 | Education, Marketing

When you are working with a marketing freelancer, one of the critical issues you need to deal with is getting them ramped up as quickly and effectively as possible.

They need to learn about your company, your products and services, and the way you want work done.

If you can find out how they learn best, and teach them that way, you’ll save a lot of time and effort. Plus you’ll get better results because they will absorb the information more effectively.

The first thing to find out is whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic.

Visual people learn best through seeing – reading, watching a person explain something, looking at graphs and charts.

Auditory people learn best through listening – hearing an explanation, discussing an issue.

Kinesthetic people learn best through moving their body – doing and touching. If they can move while watching or listening, or better still, actually do the work, they will learn faster.

Most people can learn all three ways, but they usually lean towards one over the others.

I’m auditory.

It’s not unusual for clients to give me 20 to 50 pages of information to read as background for a project, and I can understand it perfectly. But spend 15-30 minutes on the phone with me, and I’ll have a much more thorough grasp of the issues.
